Swing Out

Dreams. Desires. Longings.

They’ve been on my mind lately.

How we suppress them, stuff them down.

So far down they disappear from consciousness.

So far down, they suffocate from lack of oxygen and light.

It’s time to bring them out in the open.

Breathe life into them.

Let them take flight.

Right now, imagine the feeling of sitting on a swing, pumping your legs, breathing deep, going higher and higher – a child-like grin on your face.

Feel the air whooshing past as you swing up towards the sky, legs outstretched on the upswing.

Feel the joy in your body, hear your whoop of delight as you go even higher.

From this energized, smiling-so-big-your-cheeks-hurt place think of one dream you’ve put on hold.

One dream, one desire that’s longing to be expressed.

And imagine right now. . .taking action on this dream.

Taking one action to unleash what you most desire into the world.

That one action is all you have to do today.

  1. This is sort of a silly dream, not one of those BHDs, but given the number of home remodel shows I watch, totally relevant.  I want my home to be clean, organized, and a place of beauty.  It doesn’t have to be grand…grand is really not my style.  Just a place of retreat.
So, my one action today is cleaning out my closet of any clothing or any items that don’t fit me or my lifestyle.  Letting go of who I used to be and embracing who I am now.  I can’t afford to replace the carpet with the cat barf stains on it right now or to remodel my kitchen, but I CAN clean out and organize my closet.  Thanks for the nudge!

    1. Ellen Berg And that’s often the crux of the problem – we get too caught up in the big dream (read: overwhelming) and do nothing! I sometimes feel like a broken record with regard to taking small actions, but we need to hear it…and often!
It’s also challenging to think of taking action from an unresourceful state, which is why it’s important to shift that beforehand. For me, the memory of being on the swing, fully alive and unleashed, as if I could be flung out into the universe was the perfect feeling! What would it be for you?

      1. Sandi Amorim Ellen Berg I’m a big fan of your “broken record” of small actions Sandi as they are absolutely the most powerful and REAL!Swinging on my swing reminded me of the EFFORTLESS CONNECTION of everything in the universe – and I feel the most free when I’m connecting with humans more and typing on my computer less.
I realize that there’s a balance there – as in order for me to make it easy for “my people” to find me so that we can connect, I do need to put some time into the world of communication the computer has to offer.
However, I can complement this by DEEPENING the connections I already have by picking up the phone and calling someone I haven’t spoken to in months rather than taking the “easy” way out and just shooting off a quick email. It might take more time, but I trust that the intimacy I nurture there will feed my soul in ways that are totally and completely worth it :).

        1. Sabrina at MyMiBoSo Yes, deepening instead of widening (which I think is more common). The ‘easy’ way out is seductive and we forget that making an effort for what’s important is satisfying on a deep level.

      2. Sandi Amorim Ellen Berg Right now as my bedroom is a *complete* disaster I am envisioning a closet where I can make outfit choices with ease in the mornings instead of the 30-minutes of WTF can I wear and where TF is that shirt/skirt/pair of pants that would be perfect?  🙂
