Your Yearning Will Lead to Your Purpose

What is your deepest yearning?

You know – that thing your soul really wants for you but you haven’t been able to admit or say out loud? Yeah, that thing.

Do you have an immediate response, or are you wondering what it might be?

definition of the word Yearning

If you’re wondering about this yearning, go back to your childhood. . .

What did you want most, that you didn’t get enough of?

This is where your answer lives, along with your sadness.

Hidden from your view, subconscious, and the root of all you desire.

“There is a desire within each of us,
in the deep center of ourselves
that we call our heart.
We were born with it,
it is never completely satisfied,
and it never dies.
We are often unaware of it,
but it is always awake.”

– George G. May

What is your soul’s deepest yearning?

attention

acknowledgement

freedom

to be seen

to feel cared for, cherished

protection

guidance

full self-expression

lightness of being

to feel special

love

What is it for you?

Imagine for a moment, naming this longheld yearning and then, giving it away without apology or reservation.

YES, giving away the thing you most long for.

Paradoxical maybe, but this is where your purpose lives.

Your purpose is what you say it is when you truly answer the question.

What is your soul’s deepest yearning?

Your yearning + clarity = your purpose

Priceless and unique to you – a gift to offer the world.

That is what you are here for.

  1. I visualized my ex-boss addressing the sales force in the office…eyes bright, body language on high alert, telling us all to fire up. And at the end of it we would all consciously be different people from the ones we were. This post somehow reminded me of that time. He was amazingly motivating and would encourage us to talk about each sales call in minute detail, helping us figure out on our own, where we could improve. And gradually, we were better sales people.
Very beautiful post, Sandi. Unless we yearn, long for something, we will never take that step towards our purpose. I’ve discovered that attainment is directly proportional to how much we want something.
    Love, Vidya

    1. Vidya Sury Yes! Acknowledging we want something is the first step, and so many are afraid to do so. But I’ve often said to clients, “What have you got to lose? You don’t have what you want now, so why not try something new?” 😉

    2. Sandi Amorim Vidya Sury Loving this dialogue between you guys – so glad I stopped by here. Yearning is one of my all-time favorite words. Good choice Sandi :)!

  2. So true Sandi, about giving away what it is you long for.  Thing of it is, we can only give away what we have and so in giving we receive.  Pretty cool stuff the way the universe operates.  And this dear one was a pretty cool post.  Got me contemplating some of the deepest yearnings you listed.  A lovely exercise.

    1. ElleSommer I’m really loving that word, yearning. There’s a softness to it which surprises me and maybe takes the pressure off of the wanting. Does that make sense?
I did this exercise with a partner in a dyad during a recent training, and it was truly moving.

  3. Always so creative with your posts, Sandi. I love it. The word yearning brings up so much for me, but just following my path right now. I too love the idea of giving it away. It comes around full circle. Thanks for the continued inspiration!

    1. Cathy Taughinbaugh I love how the word yearning is resonating, and it makes me think we need to use it more often. Also, suppressed yearnings can have such a negative impact on life, don’t you think?
