I just spent an amazing weekend with a friend.
Whether we were creating goals over coffee in my living room, or out on the town, we experienced a connection and rapport that left me feeling deep gratitude.
You know the kind of great time that leaves you tired from bouts of laughing, late night chats and conversations for world domination?
Like that.
We consciously set an intention to get together for the purpose of brainstorming, creating and inspiring each other to take on some big-time goals in our lives and businesses. Because we live in different cities and we know how easy it is to stall when we’re on our own again, we created a structure to support each other.
It was seriously a productive, energizing weekend and I’m still giddy from the possibilities!
So where am I headed with this?
Jim Rohn said,
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Think about it.
Just five.
5 key people who can either lift you up or bring you down.
This begs the question…
Are you consciously choosing these 5 key individuals or simply hanging out with people out of habit?
It’s natural to want to spend time with people you love, respect or admire in some way. But what happens when you find yourself spending time with people who whine, complain and generally drain your energy?
We’ve all had this challenge haven’t we?
People you like, been friends with for years, suddenly start sucking up your time and energy like your own personal Hoover!
What to do?
It takes courage to look at the people in your life with objective eyes, and sometimes emotion can get in the way.
I once heard it put this simply:
Everyone is either giving you energy or draining it.
If that’s true. . .
Who are the 5 people you spend most of your time with?
1. Do they energize you or bring you down in some way?
2. Do they have similar goals and values?
3. Do they leave you inspired or tired?
This is an opportunity to get straight with yourself and take those relationships to a whole new level.
Or complete them powerfully.
Maybe you think that’s a harsh. But here’s the thing – your time and energy are precious resources. Think of an hour spent on the phone listening to someone else’s drama, feeling your energy draining away – that’s an hour you can never get back!
Take a good long look and choose your five carefully.
If you’re blessed, you’ll have people in your life who consistently leave you in a positive state of mind, anticipating the future together.
I’m grateful for my 5.
Are you?

Thank you for this post. I realized that there is one person currently in my life where I have been tolerating “the drain”.
And I can also see where I have not been responsible, or communicating with her in a way to shift our friendship. I can see where I get what I create.
Loking forward to our brakfast meetings once again

I find it freeing to clear not only the physical clutter we often accumulate, but the emotional and mental “clutter” as well! Those darn tolerations sneak up on us, don’t they?
